Palmers Stables is a friendly local livery and loaning yard with over 40 years of experience.
A Lifelong Passion For Horses
Established in the mid-1960s, Palmers Stables has been a cornerstone of the local equestrian community for generations. Originally founded where The Ridings road stands today, the yard was run by Bernard Henry Palmer until 1980, when Karen and Natalie took over the reins.
While we retired our riding school in 2025, our historic yard remains a peaceful, welcoming sanctuary. Nestled within 43 acres of scenic countryside on the Berkshire and South Oxfordshire border, we are proud to offer a friendly environment dedicated to the highest standards of care.
Stabling
There are over 30 loose boxes and a covered ‘pony barn’ so our horses can stand out of the weather.
Arena
We have an outdoor rubber schooling arena 40×20 metres in size which riders can reserve time slots to use.
Grazing
We have four large fields, plus a few small paddocks for quarantining new arrivals and more restricted grazing.
Hacking
There is excellent local, off-road hacking right from our doorstep, with multiple scenic routes to explore.
Do-It-Yourself Livery
We provide a relaxed, well-equipped environment for DIY liveries, prioritising both horse welfare and owner convenience. Our pasture is managed using a natural open-herding system. Mares and geldings graze in two separate herds, rotating intermittently between our four large main fields to allow the grass time to rest and regenerate.
Pony Loaning
We have 15 horses and ponies belonging to the yard managers which we put out on loan to those with existing experience with horses. Loaners must be able to catch, groom, tack up and turn out their loan pony independently as well as having BHS gold membership to provide personal accident cover and public liability insurance.
