our horses ✿

We have fifteen amazing horses and ponies owned by our managers who we put out on loan.
They each have their own fun personalities and friendship groups within the herd!

Rhum

Balmoral Rhum
Born in 2007, Rhum is a 14hh black fell pony who was returned back to us after pursuing a career in showing. He is fairly well-known up the yard as he used to belong to Queen Elizabeth II!

Rodney

Ducal Royal Signia
Born in 2005, Rodney is an Irish Draught and is our gentle giant, who is very friendly. He is quite heavy though, so if he accidently steps on your toe it would be quite painful, even in thick boots!

Dream

River Valley Pipers Dream
Born in 2001, Dream is one our older horses who is best friends with Charlie. He is a 15hh Welsh Section E(D) Cob who rides with his tongue sticking out!

Glory

Born in 2001, Glory is a lovely 13.3hh pony. She used to be more distinguishable from her grey coat, but now she’s older and whiter, she looks very similar to her mum, Hope!

Charlie

Born in 1999, Charlie is a 14.1hh chestnut pony who is now retired. When he was younger he was known as one our faster ponies, but now he simply comes in for his breakfast, gets some attention and then goes back out into the field; truly living a life of luxury!

Leia

Born in 2011, Leia is a bay mare who joined us at the beginning of 2016. Named after the late, great Carrie Fisher’s iconic Star Wars character, Leia is a lively Irish Sports Horse, mainly used by more advanced riders.

Finn

Menlough Beg Flash
Born in 2011, Finn is a stunning piebald gelding measuring 15.2hh. He tends to be ridden by our more advanced riders.

Jamie

Crystalbrook Myway
Born in 1999, Jamie is a 12hh bay Welsh Mountain pony who is great fun for children to ride. In his younger years he enjoyed jumping, but nowadays he prefers casual hacks and lessons.

Wonky

Clounlaheen Heroine
Born in 2009, Wonky is a 15.2hh skewbald mare who got her name because she has nerve damage on the side of her face, which makes her look slightly droopy!

Apache

Apache Splodge
Born in 2008, Apache is a sweet pony who has quite unusual colouring and two different eye colours!

Winter

Born in 2012, Winter is a gorgeous 16hh grey mare who is part Andalusian. She is quite popular as she is very comfortable to ride, like sitting in an armchair!

Poppy

Born in 2007, Poppy is a sassy 15hh skewbald who, in her younger years enjoyed jumping. She now enjoys going out on hacks and the odd lesson.

Troy

Clarequest Tony
Born in 2003, Troy is a 16.2hh chestnut Irish Sports Horse. He used to be a hunting horse but is now happy taking people on gentle hacks.

Dove

Born in 2014, Dove is a pretty 12hh grey pony who came to us alongside her friends, Lark and Wren. She is full of character and is now on loan, enjoying hacking out twice a week.

Wren

Born in 2007, Wren is a 10hh pony who came to us with her friends, Dove and Lark. She is a bay shetland with a cute white patch on her withers.

No Longer With Us

In recent years we have had a few horses who have come to live with us and work within the riding school, but who have since moved on to different homes.

Neo

Neo is an ex-racehorse thoroughbred born in 2014 who was put out on loan in September 2025 and has now been purchased by the loaner.

Peggy

Peggy is a pretty black 14hh pony who was gifted to us. Unfortunately, she kept going lame due to spavin, so has been retired and is now living back with her previous owner.

Benni

Benni is a 15hh chestnut horse born in 2012. He was temporarily loaned to us and then returned to his owner when the riding school shut. He has now been re-sold and is living a life of luxury in the New Forest.

Chocolate

Chocolate is a 14hh bay mare born in 2008 who came to us as a 5-year-old. She was put out on loan in June 2020 and was later sold in November 2020 and continues to live at the yard as a livery.

India

Indy is a 16hh skewbald mare born in 2005 who came to us as a 5-year-old. Rachel bought India as a Christmas present to herself in 2019 having fallen in love with her when she used to work for us. She continues to live at the yard as a livery.

Gone But Not Forgotten

Since our yard has been around for such a long time, we have unfortunately lost quite a few of our horses and ponies throughout the years. We like to keep their memories alive by celebrating each of their unique, exciting lives, as well as giving thanks to them for teaching many happy clients how to ride.

Lark

2007 – 2025
After six years at the yard, we sadly lost Lark after battling several difficult bouts of colic. She was a beautiful palomino pony who was a joy to ride, accompanying Natalie on several sponsored events during this time, all of which she thoroughly enjoyed.

Jade

1st June 1997 – 5th Feb 2025
We had Jade for over 20 years during which we had several adventures together. She was coined ‘the best horse in the yard’ by Natalie and will be sadly missed. Rest in peace beautiful girl.

George

1998 – 2025
We said goodbye to George after his arthritis became too much for him. As most people know, he used to belong to Queen Elizabeth II so hopefully he can see her again over the rainbow bridge.

Solo

1988 – 2024
Solo was the matriarch of the yard for many years who died at the ripe old age of 35+. She taught many generations of children to ride and has had several field companions over the years. She always acted like a protective, grumpy old-lady wife to whoever her current field-friend was, and she can now rest happily with Gypsy, Monarch and George over the rainbow bridge.

Beauty

Matley Forest Gift
2003 – 2024
We sadly had to put Beauty down as she had an obstruction in her throat which developed into severe breathing difficulties, possibly due to the presence of a undetectable growth. Born in 2003, she came to us in 2017 and had many fans; She was a fun pony to ride and had such a spirited character. She truly lived up to her name!

Mouse

1999 – 2023
Mouse was a brilliant little bay pony who gave many children some very happy memories. She came to us in 2006, with her friend Pippa who we sadly lost in 2008. Hopefully they will meet up again over the rainbow bridge.

Monarch

Kilcummer Mighty Atom
1994 – 2023
Monarch was a lovely little Shetland pony who was given to us after his previous owners could no longer care for him. His grumpy old man personality added an entertaining flair to the yard and he spent many years being pampered by staff and helpers alike.

Keeta

2004 – 2020
Keeta, whose full name was Chakita, was a cheeky little piebald pony who was born in April 2004 and lived with us for 10 years.

Blue

1993 – 2017
Blue was a goofy grey Welsh pony who was named because of his bright blue eyes. Riders would have to strongly encourage him to keep going, especially since he loved to stop regularly to grab snacks! He was Playboy’s half-brother as they shared the same mother but they had entirely opposite personalities!

Keffy

1992 – 2015
Keffy was another one of our grey Welsh ponies. He had a plucky personality and strangely enough wasn’t much of a fan of other horses, but he was a pleasure for people to ride!

Playboy

1992 – 2015
Playboy was another of our grey Welsh ponies. He was very friendly but definitely enjoyed going faster on rides! He was Blue’s half-brother as they shared the same mother but they had entirely opposite personalities!

Tom

1989 – 2014
Tom was a small bay pony who helped many youngsters to ride. He was best friends with Bluey and the duo often hung out together on their own in the field.

Gipsy

1984 – 2012
Gipsy was a lovely little skewbald pony who was best friends with Solo for many years. The pair shared a field together and were often referred to as an old married couple!
